Significance of SHRIMP U-Pb dating of the Imperial Porphyry and associated Dokhan Volcanics, Gebel Dokhan, north Eastern Desert, Egypt

چکیده
SHRIMP U-Pb zircon dating was undertaken on two samples of Dokhan Volcanics from the type area at Gebel Dokhan, north Eastern Desert, Egypt. A quartz andesite from the Imperial Porphyry unit has a weighted 206Pb/238U age of 593 f 13 Ma (20). A sample of grey andesite, from 450 m lower in the succession, has a weighted 206Pb/23*U age of 602 + 9 Ma (20). These ages are interpreted to record the time of eruption of the Dokhan Volcanics. Two concordant zircon cores in the upper sample define a weighted *06Pb/238U age of 685 f 16 Ma (2o), indicating inheritance from an older source. These cores have oscillatory zoning and may be derived from the ‘older’ granite basement or even an earlier volcanic sequence in the area. Care should, therefore, be taken in correlating all volcanic rocks in the Eastern Desert of Egypt with the Dokhan Volcanic Formation, as defined at the type locality. Q 2000 Elsevier Science Limited. A re-evaluation of the origin and setting of the Late Precambrian Hammamat Group based on SHRIMP U–Pb dating of detrital zircons from Gebel Umm Tawat, North Eastern Desert, Egypt
A sample from near the base of the sedimentary Hammamat Group at Gebel Umm Tawat, North Eastern Desert, Egypt, contains detrital zircons with sensitive high-resolution ion microprobe (SHRIMP) U– Pb ages as young as 585 13 Ma. This age is within error of recent SHRIMP dates from the adjacent Dokhan Volcanic Series and establishes that they contributed material to the sediments. It is also c. 45 ...

The Sungun copper porphyry deposit is hosted by a Tertiary magmatic complex in the Azarbayjan province , northwestern Iran. The Sungan mine in its southern and eastern parts is limited by early Miocene volcanic and by Late Cretaceous limestone rocks in northern and eastern parts respectively . The Sungun deposit is associated with a suite of porphyritic granitoids and late dikes intrudi...
متن کاملGeochemical Characteristics and Chemical Electron Microprobe U-Pb-Th Dating of Pitchblende Mineralization from Gabal Gattar Younger Granite, North Eastern Desert, Egypt
Pitchblende mineralization was studied in the younger granite samples collected from Gabal Gattar, north Eastern Desert, Egypt using electron scanning microscope (ESM) and electron probe microanalyses (EPMA). This study revealed that this pitchblende contains significant Zr content reaching up to (66.80% ZrO2), which suggests that volcanic rocks were probably the source of such a deposit. High ...
